We are currently looking for experienced Shut Coordinators to start as soon as reasonably possible. The works will be based in Port Hedland on a 10/11 FIFO roster.


You'll be working (embedded contractor) and Supervising projects within the Rail Engineering division.

Job Requirements:

Quick list of tasks:

  • Ensure the risks associated with the activities in a scope of work have been identified and suitable controls identified and implemented.
  • For the activities in the scope of work, ensure suitably competent resources of sufficient good health and fitness are performing the work safely to BHP's expectations using relevant procedures, standards, and instructions.
  • Identify yourself to the workers (including contractors) & establish an engagement routine for communication and progress reviews.
  • Authorise Hazard Assessments and Permits (in accordance with the relevant Procedures) and ensure work is otherwise completed with the relevant and approved hazard assessments, permits/clearance certificates, and Work Orders (WO's)/Purchase Orders (PO's).
  • Validate the work crews understanding of the activities and risk controls associated with the activities.




  • Current full West Australian "C" class motor vehicle license or current equivalent.
  • Previous (2+ years) Supervisor experience within a FIFO mining environment
  • Certificate III in civil construction (highly desirable)
  • Pre-requisite accreditation for BHP Responsible Person:
  • o RIICOM301D - Communicate Information,
  • o RIIRIS301D - Apply Risk Management Processes,
  • o BSBMGT401A - Show Leadership in the Workplace, and
  • o RIIBEF402D - Supervise Onsite Operations.



  • Good communication, interpersonal and people management skills with a range of audiences.
  • Computer literacy with Microsoft suite, 1SAP and planning systems.
  • Good planning skills and the ability to oversee projects to successful completion.
  • Administration and prioritisation including time management capability.
  • Competent in reading detailed plans and elevations.
  • Sound judgement including balancing competing priorities
