About the role

We are currently seeking a qualified multidiscipline (SMP, civil, rail) Land Surveyor to join our Rail Operations hub to work on the Cranbrook Rail Outloading Project based in the Albany Region of Western Australia. This role will operate on a FIFO or DIDO basis.

Rail Operations is an internal business unit within Laing O’Rourke, specialising in the sole delivery of all aspects of Rail, working with a team of technical experts to deliver a high portfolio of work across Western Australia.


Key responsibilities:

  • Alignment of structural components including the relationship of the components to the surrounding structures, tolerances, and survey pickup points.
  • Structural steel erection and dimensional control of pre-fabricated modules.
  • Surveying boundaries and surfaces to facilitate accurate volume reporting.
  • Surveying lines, levels and positions of design and as-built information in line with Project Specification and/or Australian Standards
  • Calculate and prepare set out data.
  • Conduct set out surveys for construction.
  • Liaise with the engineering team, clients and other authorities regarding surveying requirements.
  • Establish and maintain survey control networks in line with Project Specification and/or Australian Standards
  • Report writing and preparing technical documents.


About you

  • A tertiary qualification in Engineering Surveying along with several years of experience in a similar role having worked on structural, mechanical and piping mining construction projects.
  • You will have exposure to working on materials handling projects.
  • Demonstrate a strong work ethic, and excellent communication, technical, time management and organizational skills.
  • An ability to work autonomously and demonstrate a self-motivated and positive attitude to work.
  • Experience with Leica, Trimble, GPS equipment and Autocad is preferred.
